Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how FocusLog ("we", "our", or "the extension") collects, uses, stores, and shares user data. FocusLog is a Chrome browser extension that automatically tracks time spent on websites, organized by user-defined projects. By installing and using FocusLog, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Data We Collect

FocusLog collects the following categories of user data:

2.1 Browsing Activity (Stored Locally Only)

  • Active Tab URLs and Domain Names: Used to identify which project a browsing session belongs to and to calculate time spent per domain. This data is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) and is never transmitted to any external server.
  • Session Duration and Timestamps: Start and end times of active browsing sessions, stored locally.
  • Project Configurations: User-defined project names, domain rules, and category assignments, stored locally.
  • Extension Settings and Preferences: Your configuration choices (e.g., idle timeout, daily goals, blocked sites), stored locally.

2.2 Google Account Data (Optional, User-Initiated Only)

If you choose to use the optional Google Drive sync feature, FocusLog requests access to:

  • Google Drive App Data: Used solely to back up and restore your session logs and settings to your personal Google Drive app data folder. FocusLog cannot access any other files in your Google Drive.
  • Google Calendar Events (Read-Only): If enabled, used to display calendar context alongside your tracked sessions. FocusLog only reads event titles and times; it cannot modify your calendar.
  • Google Account Email Address: Used to identify your account for sync purposes. Displayed in the extension settings.

Google account data is accessed via the Chrome Identity API (chrome.identity) and Google OAuth 2.0. This data is transmitted directly between your browser and Google's servers. FocusLog does not store your Google credentials or OAuth tokens on any external server.

2.3 Subscription and Payment Data

If you purchase a FocusLog Pro or Ultra subscription, we collect:

  • Email Address: The email you provide during checkout. Used to generate and deliver your license key, and to verify your subscription status.
  • License Key: A generated activation key (e.g., FL-PRO-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) stored on our backend server and in your browser's local storage after activation.
  • Payment Transaction ID and Subscription ID: Identifiers returned by your chosen payment provider (Razorpay or PayPal). Used to verify payment completion. We do not collect or store your credit card number, bank account details, or other financial instrument data.
  • Plan Type and Payment Amount: Which subscription plan you purchased and the amount paid.

This data is stored on our backend server (Cloudflare Workers with Cloudflare KV storage) for the sole purpose of subscription verification and license key activation.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Browsing activity data: Used exclusively within the extension on your local device to generate time tracking reports, analytics dashboards, and productivity statistics. This data never leaves your browser.
  • Google account data: Used only for the specific features you enable (Drive backup/sync, Calendar context). Not used for advertising, profiling, or any other purpose.
  • Email address (subscription): Used only to generate your license key, verify subscription status, and send a one-time confirmation email with your license key.
  • Payment identifiers: Used only to verify that a payment was completed before issuing a license key.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • Local browser storage: All browsing activity, session logs, project settings, and preferences are stored in chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.session within your browser. This data is sandboxed by Chrome and is not accessible to other extensions or websites.
  • Backend server storage: Subscription records (email, license key, plan type, payment ID, subscription status) are stored on Cloudflare Workers KV, a globally distributed key-value store operated by Cloudflare, Inc. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored according to Cloudflare's security practices.
  • No analytics or tracking services: FocusLog does not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party analytics or tracking service within the extension.

5. Data Sharing with Third Parties

FocusLog shares user data with the following third parties, only when you initiate the specific action:

  • Google (Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Identity): When you use the optional Google sync feature, your session data is transmitted to your personal Google Drive. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Razorpay: When you subscribe via Razorpay, your email and payment information are processed by Razorpay. Governed by Razorpay's Privacy Policy.
  • PayPal: When you subscribe via PayPal, your email and payment information are processed by PayPal. Governed by PayPal's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare: Our backend runs on Cloudflare Workers. Subscription verification data is processed and stored by Cloudflare. Governed by Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
  • Slack: If you configure the optional Slack webhook integration, session summary data you choose to send is transmitted to your Slack workspace via the webhook URL you provide.
  • Notion: If you configure the optional Notion integration, session data you choose to export is transmitted to your Notion workspace via the Notion API using a token you provide.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party. We do not share data for advertising or marketing purposes.

6. Chrome Extension Permissions

FocusLog requests the following permissions during installation. Each is used strictly for the stated purpose:

  • tabs: To detect active tab URL changes and map them to your project filters. We read only the URL and title of the active tab. We do not read page content.
  • storage: To save your settings, session logs, and project configurations locally in your browser.
  • alarms: To schedule periodic background wake-ups so session timing remains accurate.
  • idle: To detect when your system is idle (no keyboard or mouse input) and automatically pause time tracking.
  • notifications: To display optional daily goal alerts and session reminders.
  • favicon: To display website favicons in the dashboard and popup for visual identification of tracked domains.
  • identity: To authenticate with your Google account for optional Google Drive sync and Calendar integration via Chrome's built-in identity system.
  • offscreen: To perform background tasks (such as data export) using an offscreen document, as required by Manifest V3.

7. Host Permissions

FocusLog requests access to the following external domains:

  • https://www.googleapis.com/*: To access Google Drive and Google Calendar APIs for optional sync features.
  • https://calendar.google.com/*: To read Google Calendar events for optional session context.
  • https://script.google.com/*: To support optional Google Apps Script integrations.
  • https://api.notion.com/*: To support optional Notion data export.
  • https://hooks.slack.com/*: To support optional Slack webhook notifications.
  • https://focuslog-backend.aug.workers.dev/*: Our backend server for subscription verification and license activation.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Local data: You have full control over locally stored data. You can delete all session logs and settings at any time by clicking "Delete All Logs" in the extension settings panel, or by uninstalling the extension. Once deleted, this data cannot be recovered.
  • Subscription data: Subscription records (email, license key, plan) are retained on our backend server for as long as your subscription is active. You may request deletion of your subscription data by contacting us at the email address below.
  • Google Drive data: Data synced to Google Drive is stored in your personal Drive account. You can delete it directly from Google Drive at any time.

9. Children's Privacy

FocusLog is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
